I don’t want to build this alone.

Dev to dev: ZedLab is one person right now. I want to ship first-grade apps from Zambia, and that goes better with other builders in the room.

The honest version

Hamoonga Hikalungu, founder of ZedLab

I’m Hamoonga. I’m a self-taught Android developer in Lusaka, and ZedLab is my studio. Right now it’s just me.

I’m new at this, so I’ll be straight with you: I can’t promise pay. I don’t have clients or revenue to hand out yet, and I’d rather say that now than make a promise I can’t keep.

What I do have is two real Android apps, a clear direction, and a lot of drive. I want people who like building things properly, who’d rather ship one great app than five rough ones, and who want to grow something from the start.

What exists today

  • ZedBrains. An ECZ study app for Grades 10 to 12. Notes, practice, an AI tutor, XP and streaks. Early access.
  • ZM Utility. A property listings app for Zambia. Early access.
  • Next. Security tools for Android developers, once there are people and users to build them for.

It’s early, rough in places, and moving. That’s exactly why there’s space for you to shape it.

Who I’d like to build with

  • Android devs who like Kotlin and Jetpack Compose and care about how an app feels on a mid-range phone.
  • Designers who can make a screen obvious to use.
  • Backend and security folks who enjoy locking things down and breaking things on purpose.
  • ECZ teachers and subject experts who can help make ZedBrains content correct and genuinely useful.
  • Learners who are serious about getting better on real projects.

No degree needed. Show me something you built and tell me what you want to get better at.

What you can expect from me

  • A real project with real users, not a throwaway demo.
  • A say in what we build and how we build it.
  • Clear credit for what you make.
  • Everything agreed in writing before work starts: who owns what, what you do, and how someone steps away.
  • If ZedLab starts earning, we agree how it’s shared before the money exists, not after.

I’ll never ask you to work on a vague promise. If it doesn’t make sense for you, say so and we part as friends.

What we build with

  • Kotlin
  • Jetpack Compose
  • Supabase
  • Git
  • Cloudflare Pages

If you know a better tool for the job, bring it. I care about the result.

How to start

Keep it simple. No forms, no gatekeeping.

  1. Say hi

Message me on WhatsApp or email with a few lines about yourself.

  2. Show something

A repo, a design, a write-up, an app. Anything you made counts.

  3. Try a small thing

We pick one small task together, see how we work, then decide.

Let’s ship something good.

I’m building this either way. It’ll just be better, and more fun, with the right people.
